Why does my dog need a consultation and temperament evaluation?

Why the Temperament Evaluation Matters:

Unlike a brief meet-and-greet, our evaluation is a full-day drop-off experience. This gives your pet the time they need to settle into a new environment, explore new routines, and bond with our team away from the comfort of home.

This process is led by experts specifically educated in:

  • Canine body language – recognizing the subtle cues that indicate comfort, stress, or excitement.
  • Canine communication – understanding both verbal and non-verbal signals so we can advocate for what is truly best for your furry companion.

What to Expect:

A trained team of dedicated advocates monitors how your pet handles the transition while observing their temperament in a social setting.

You’ll receive an honest debrief of your pet’s experience, including photos so you can see exactly how their day went.

Scheduling:

  • Drop-off between 8 AM – 11 AM (Monday – Friday)
  • Pick-up any time after 4 PM (by 6 PM close).

How It Helps:

  • By relaying exactly what your pet displayed throughout the day, we empower you to make informed decisions about their care.
  • You have the autonomy to tailor daycare or boarding frequency to match your dog’s social battery and stamina.
  • We help you recognize your pet’s unique needs to create the perfect introduction to our services.
  • We work with you to align their home routine with our caregiving program, ensuring they feel safe, confident, and “at home” while they’re with us.

Our goal is simple: when your pet is away from home, they shouldn’t just be “staying” with us—they should be thriving in a program built specifically for them.

What training does the Dog Training Apprentice team have?

Mainstay Resort is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to each of our guests, which begins with our carefully selected team of compassionate Training Apprentices. Before hands-on training can even begin, the Training Apprentices go through a rigorous course of virtual training covering the fundamentals of topics such as canine behavior, body language, and handling. Once virtual training is complete, the Apprentices are then under the supervision of our experienced Dog Training Specialist to ensure that they are not only comfortable with the duties of being a Dog Training Apprentice, but also fully equipped with the tools and knowledge for success every day.
